The master of Olympic swimming is back. After 6 days of competition in London, Michael Phelps’ drought for an individual gold medal is finally broken. Last night Phelps won the 200 meter individual medley to win his very first individual Olympic gold medal in the London Olympics.
Phelps has beaten another American swimmer Ryan Lochte who previously won over him in the 400 meter individual medley. With this win, Phelps proved that he still have the golden touch in the pool and that he’s not that old yet to compete with the younger swimmers.
This latest win gave him his 16th gold medal (the highest number of gold medals any Olympian got). It has cemented his stature in Olympic history as the most be-medalled Oympian with his total of 20 medals. And that arguably made him the most successful if not the greatest Olympic athlete of all time.
