Morning Rush Top 10: The Book Launch

It was a nice experience last Saturday when I attended the jam packed book launch of The Morning Rush Top 10 Book. Held at the the Robinson’s Galleria Activity center in Ortigas I was in awe seeing the box office line leading to the stage where the book signing is done. Present of course are the 2 famous and inevitable DJ’s of The Morning Rush Chico and Delamar who tirelessly signed each and every books of the morning rush fans and followers.

Different faces of different ages flocked there to have their books signed (including me even if I failed to meet the cutoff number). But what’s memorable for me was meeting those people I only interacted on twitter then. Together with one of my braders XtianoRhoynaldo, the book launch became an opportunity to give moving faces to the names I often talk on twitter. It was a nice day meeting twitter pals such us jrhyan, kitrich, cut3rw1nst0n, rairaiwashere, yoursuperdan and the prinsesa krizzieenrile. But it became more fun when I got the authograph of the most famous and well know rusher “THE” Oscar dela Hopia.I may not have it signed by Chico and Del but at least I have THE ODH. hehe.

It was indeed a really fun afternoon. Seeing the closeness and bonding of the rusher group was inspiring and the energy that radiates from them was contagious. I can really say it was not only a FAN GROUP it was a FAMILY. Congrats to Chico and Del for a successful launch and congrats to all the Rushers, both SILENT and NOISY ohh I mean ACTIVE. The book will not be possible without the rushers, who keep on tweeting and sending sensible and funny statements. Keep the laugh alive, continue the morning rush. I am happy to be part of this big family.

Day 5: Mirriam is Back (Corona Impeachment Trial)

After a week of absence because of hypertension, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago is back in full battle gear at the Senate, to perform her duty as Senator-Juror to the Impeachment Trial of CJ Corona. Being missed by spectators for her colorful vocabulary, the lady Senator’s comeback was expected to be a blast and indeed she proved that Philippine Senate will be boring without her.

Compared to the boring and full of pit stops trial last week, day 5 became alive and more interesting as Defensor-Santiago fired on prosecution panel who seemed not prepared in coming to the trial. The lady senator scolded lead prosecutor Niel Tupas Jr (just like a student being reprimanded by a teacher). for his inability to answer questions on how many witnesses and documents the prosecution intends to submit to the court. The senator went ballistic in his ‘lecture’ to the prosecution panel teaching them to be prepared all the time because the court should not be wasting time with things that can be addressed easily thru planning and proper handling of the case.

It was also during this day that the proceedings was cut short, again because of the failure of the prosecution to submit the legal memorandum regarding Article 2 of the impeachment complaint which was asked by the court after it’s adjournment last week. Contrary to the defense panel, which already submitted theirs early on that day, the failure of the prosecution to submit their copy, left the impeachment court with no choice but to suspend the hearing until the next day to wait for their legal memorandum.

It’s really a learning process for all of us. Since we are new to this kind of proceedings it’s understandable not to have perfect system. I like how presiding judge Senator Juan Ponce-Enrile handled the trial and I’m really impressed at how he conduct the whole proceedings. But I would like to say I am very very disappointed with the way the prosecution panel is acting. It’s very disgusting to the point I want to side with the defense. They should address their problems of incompetence and ill-preparedness if they want to successfully convince the judges to vote for conviction. But I would not be surprised if in the end the verdict will be acquittal if they didn’t change the course of their legal strategies.

3 Taong gulang na si Nite Writer

Time really flies so fast, muntik ko nang makalimutan na ngayon pala ang 3rd birth anniversary ni Nite Writer. It was in January 16, 2009 nang siya ay isilang. Although I’ve been blogging since 2007 (sa Friendster blog pa yun, dun ako nagsimula), Nite Writer came into life in 2009.

TRIALserye: The Pilot Episode (Corona Impeachment Trial)

The day has come for yet another first in our history as today marked the first day of the Impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. Early this morning, CJ’s supporters gathered in-front of the Supreme Court to show support for their boss where a fierce and in fighting mood Corona addressed them. In his speech before his supporters he enumerated 3 people who wants him out of the supreme court and again denied every allegations stated on the articles of impeachment which are Betrayal of Public Trust, Culpable Violation of the Constitution and Graft and Corruption.

During the afternoon at about 2pm, the trial started with a prayer by Sen. Edgardo Angara and the opening statement of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile who is acting as the presiding judge. Present in the Senate Impeachment hall are almost all the Senator-Judges except Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago who is suffering from hypertension and Sen. Loren Legarda who was said to be in the United States. And as earlier speculated, the Chief Justice attended the first day of his trial in the senate together with his wife Cristina and other supporters like SC Spokesman Midas Marquez.

In his opening statement Sen. Pres. Enrile assured that the trial will be bounded by rules and not by public opinion or emotions. After that was the presentation of both the prosecution and defense panels led by  Rep. Niel Tupas Jr. and former Justice Serapin Cuevas respectively. Thereafter was their opening statements successively (Tupas for the presecution and Eduardo delos Angeles for the defense).

During today’s session also, the prosecution seemingly scored against the defense as their motion for preliminary investigation was denied by the presiding judge. It may be a setback for the side of the defense but they’re confident it will not hamper the course of their strategy.

Today is indeed another landmark in our nation’s history. This is the first time that we are experiencing an impeachment trial of the highest justice of the land. Although we are not virgin to impeachment trials as we already experienced it during the time of Erap, this time was different because it will show how matured we became in regards to this democratic process. This will also be a test to our Senators, who are sitting as judges, to be impartial and act as neutral as they can and try the case without undue biases to their political affiliations and linings. And lastly this is a test for all of us, because in any way, it will still affect us because we are all part of this process.

This is democracy in action so we ought to be discerning and objective in all the news and information that will be fed to our minds. Examine the facts and statements and not just rely on the popular opinions. Failure of the trial will be our failure also and its success will be success of our democracy and all our democratic institutions.

from Heckler at Large

Bagamat andyan pa naman ang Who Wants to be a Millionare sa TV5 ay nakakamiss pa rin ang GAME KNB at Battle of the Brains.

Tila nakikipaghabulan
Animo’y kahapon lamang
Nang naganap ang putukan
Ngayo’y nangangalahati na ulit
Ang bagong buwan
Malapit na tuloy sumapit
Ang aking kaarawan
Anong bago kaya
Ang hatid nitong taon
Ayoko munang isipin
Dahil nakakaburyong
Hahayaan na lamang
Na sumabay sa alon
Kung saan mapadpad
Saka na lamang tutugon
Sasabay sa awit
At sasayaw sa tugtog
Subalit kakayod pa rin
Para pangrap ay maabot
At sa katuparan nito’y
Isang pagdiriwang
Kasama ang pamilya
At mga kaibigan
Lahat ng kabahagi
Ay pasasalamatan
Gagawa ng listahan
Upang walang makalimutan
Humahaba na yata
Ang Huwebes na ito
Kelangan ko nang tapusin
Ang tulang ito
At bumalik sa aking
Naghihintay na trabaho
Dahil bukas ay BIYERNES
At kasunod ay SABADO
Ibig sabihin lamang
Natapos na naman

The Philippines is more FUN-TASTIC

After the botched Pilipinas Kay Ganda tourism campign which led to the resignation of Usec. Enteng Romano and eventually the exit of Sec. Alberto Lim, now comes the most awaited and most anticipated tourism campaign. Under the helm of the current Tourism Sec. Mon Jimenez and created by award winning ad agency BBDO Guerrero, DOT launched last week the new campaign “Its More Fun In The Philippines”.

After knowing it, my first reaction was, is it the one we’ve waited for quite sometime? I’ll admit the new brand didn’t appeal to me that much, comparing to the very catchy and easy to promote WOW Philippines. Added to the non-excitement was the surfacing of a 61 years old It’s More Fun in Switzerland campaign which caused other people  to put holes on the new branding for its originality.

But after reading/knowing the reason behind the new brand from Sec. Mon Jimenez himself, I realized why not give it a try and it suddenly sink-in to me that hey our country and our people is really fantastic, thus making it really more fun in here.

The new branding may be a little more different with the common one-word adjectives like Amazing Thailand, Incredible India and others, but as what Steve Jobs said we must “Think Differently”. I think the DOT intentionally thought of shying away from the usual campaigns of other Asian countries to promote that we are more than the usual tourist destination in Asia. And I will give credit to that because one way of promoting something is to offer new things because people often caters more to the new and the unusual as it draws curiosity and rave.

But in every changes there will always be nay sayers. After the launch of the new tourism brand several people shared their disappointments and even bashed the slogan relating it to some of the unfortunate events happening in our country. Slogans like “Kidnapping is more fun in the Philippines”, “Snatchers and Pick Pockets are more fun in the Philippines” among others. They even said it’s a waste of money for tourism campaign just like that. Yes criticisms are ok as long as its intention is to uplift something. But to criticize just for the sake of downplaying it and creating negativity is unacceptable. We are not a perfect country, we have our flaws and problems but bashing our own just to prove you’re more intelligent or more brilliant than others is in-appropriate.

Good thing there are more people who appreciates the new campaign and are now helping the DOT to move forward. Social media supporters of the campaign are outnumbering and dissolving those who do not. And this is what DOT aimed for, collective efforts of people to promote our country because it is us Filipinos who are our nation’s brand. We have a lot of tourist spots to boast for, but our edge really is our warmth and unique Pinoy nature towards visitors. And that’s what makes us more FUN-TASTIC so we can really say to the world, come visit us because It’s More Fun In The Philippines.

God Blessed the Broken Road

Dreams do come true and Love really find its way to each others hearts.

When I first heard this song Bless the Broken Road by the Rascal Flatts, my initial reaction was “Ahh just another gospel song”, because of its melody and rhythm. But after I read the lyrics and played it again, I was moved by its meaning. Then I relalized why Kuya Alan picked this song as one of his favorites.

Last Monday I had the chance to attend the “wedding of the year” (hehehe) of Kuya Alan and Ate Glenda at Hotel Ponte Fino in Batangas City. It was such a nice event I would regret if I didn’t come. We saw how they love each other so much and it’s really an inspiring moment seeing couple being united as  one in marriage.

But before they came to that moment, they first went to a very special love story. Who would have expected that 2 person both from Batangas City will meet and fall in-love in a foreign land. Kuya Alan is working in Korea while Ate Glenda is in Japan. But still the universe conspired for them to meet in Japan and know each other. What’s more touching about their story is they both came from a long hiatus of non-relationship, that’s why they are each others firsts. Like the lyrics from the song, “Every long lost dream led me to where you are, Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars, Pointing me on my way into your loving arms, This much I know is true, That God blessed the broken road, That led me straight to you”. God really blessed their roads and led straight to each others hearts. What a nice love story indeed and being a friend of Kuya Alan and witnessing their union is for me a wonderful experience.

It made me realized that true love really exist not only in fairy tales but in real life. That every unsuccessful attempt to find love will eventually fall into its right time no matter how long it takes. That every disappointment is a blessing in disguise to lead you to a greater and more precious gift of love. That dreams really do come true to those who believe and work for it’s attainment. I am lucky to have known Kuya Alan and now Ate Glenda. They are now one of my idols and inspiration when it comes to love and relationship. They have proved that God will really lead you to that person in the right time at the right place no matter how unconventional it is.
