After the arrival of BMX rider Daniel Caluag in London, the 11-man Philippine Team for this year’s London Olympics has now been completed. Aside from Caluag, other athletes that composed the Philippine Team are Jasmine Paler Alkhaldi and Jessie Khing Lacuna for swimming, Mark Anthony Barriga for Boxing, Rene Herrera and Marestella Torres for Athletics, Tomohiko Hoshina for Judo, Paul Brian Rosario for Skeet Shooting, Hidilyn Diaz for Weightlifting, Rachelle Anne Cabral and Mark Javier for Archery.
Philippines has yet to win the elusive gold, but the athletes promised they will do their best to get one. We already got gold from bowling but it was not official game yet then that’s why it is our nations prayer to finally get that elusive gold medal. The closest that we had was the controversial silver medal finish of Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco in Boxing at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Medal haul of the Philippines (since joining the games) also came from only sporting events, Boxing with 5 medals (2 Silvers and 3 Bronzes), Athletics with 2 Bronze medals and Swimming with 2 Bronze medals also.
Although this year’s team delegation is smaller compared to the previous Olympic games, there are strong hopes and beliefs in the abilities and skills of this year’s Philippine Team to bring home a medal. Let’s support their quest for the Gold and make Pinoy Pride shine in London.
London Olympics 2012 will have its Opening Ceremony this Friday July 27, 2012.
