After being faced by ethics complaint regarding his plagiarism issue and the sweeping statement by former US Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s daughter Kerry Kennedy, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, issued today another privilege speech reiterating his innocence over the allegations of plagiarism.
In his speech he repeatedly denied plagiarizing any books or speech but admitted to have copied words from different sources. He also said that he did not deny it on the time he issued the turno en contra that those words were his own but from different sources.
“The journal will bear me out. Wala po akong sinabi doon na akin ‘yon. Maliwanag na kontra pa nga ang sinabi ko. Sinabi ko na lahat ng sinabi ko tungkol sa medical at agham ay hindi galing sa akin,” Sotto said.
On the issue of the Kennedy statement, he apologized to the Kennedy family for translating Robert F. Kennedy’s Day of Affirmation speech but said that is not his intention. He mentioned that the controversial verse of the Kennedy speech was sent to him via text from a friend which he translated into Tagalog. With that he maintained he did not plagiarized the Kennedy speech but only copied its text.
“But copying or imitation is the highest form of flattery. If it upsets the Kennedy family, well I’m sorry. But that is not the intention that we have when we used it” Sotto said.
It seemed that Sotto is really steadfast and firm in opposing the RH Bill even if it compromised some ethical standards of what a Senator should be. Let’s just see how the ethics committee will decide on his case in the following days.

Kasi naman kasi, sabi ni Kerry Kennedy eh out of context yung pag ka gamit nya. Sotto is anti-RH Bill tapos si Kerry is a long time advocate of the rights of women which is more like pro RH Bill.
