RH Bill ratified by both Senate and House of Representatives

RHBicamPhotoAfter meeting on the Bicameral Conference Committee today, a final draft of the Reproductive Health Bill has been finally created and later ratified by both houses of congress.

Present at the RH Bicameral Conference Committe were Senators Pia Cayetano, TG Guingona, Tito Sotto, Allan Cayetano, Bongbong Marcos, Kiko Pangilinan, Koko Pimentel, Ping Lacson and Ralph Recto for the part of the Senate. For the House of Representatives the Bicam contingents were Reps. Edcel Lagman, Antonio Tinio, Janeth Garin, Dina Abad, Teddy Baguilat, Kaka Bag-ao, Mel and Cesar Sarmiento, and Danny Suarez.

After they have agreed with all the amendments that will be retained of removed from the bill, the final draft was then created and presented to both houses. And at the vote of 11-5, the Senate ratified the RH Bicam Report. Voting in favor were:

  1. Sen. Pia Cayetano
  2. Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano
  3. Sen. Joker Arroyo
  4. Sen. Edgardo Angara
  5. Sen. Frank Drilon
  6. Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago
  7. Sen. TG Guingona III
  8. Sen. Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr
  9. Sen. Serge Osmeña III
  10. Sen. Ping Lacson
  11. Sen. Loren Legarda

Meanwhile those who voted against were:

  1. Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile
  2. Sen. Tito Sotto
  3. Sen. Jinggoy Estrada
  4. Sen. Gringo Honasan
  5. Sen. Koko Pimentel

House of Representatives also ratified the Bicam report on the same night.

Now that the Reproductive Health Bill is now ratified, the only thing needed is the President’s signature before it became an official law of the land. What a sweet victory for all the supporters and proponents of the measure, that after the very long 14 years our country will now have a Reproductive Health and Responsible Parenthood Law, which is really needed to be implemented.
