President Benigno Simeon Aquino has finally signed into law the Kasambahay Bill. According to Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abby Valte, the President have signed RA 10361 or An Act Instituting Policies for the Protection and Welfare of Domestic Workers last January 18, 2013. The official copy of the signed law will be available at the Official Gazette of Malacañang.
The new law will take effect 15 days after it has been published in the print version of the Gazette or any nationally circulating newspaper.
Under the new law, Kasambahays or the Domestic Workers will now enjoy a fix monthly salary of 2,500Php for those working in NCR, 2,000Php to those working in chartered cities and municipalities and 1,500Php for those in other municipalities.
Another provision of the law is the mandate on employers to enter into a contract with their domestic workers, register them in their barangay and provide payslips as proof of their wage. They are also required to register their Kasambahays in SSS, Pag-IBIG and Philheath.
