An intense, nerve rocking game but in the end it was a sweet victory for the Pinoy Football Team, Azkals. After dominating Cambodia in a lap sided win 8-0 last Sunday, PH Azkals again proved that we can be a dominant force in South East Asian football with today’s win against Turkmenistan.
After several yellow cards for Phil Younghusband and Rob Gier and the eventual red card for P. Younghusband which made him ejected from the game, the PH Azkals still managed to pull the win against the great Turkmenistan team for the very first time in their match history.
It was a scoreless first half for both teams as they keep tight defenses. But at the 70th minute of the game in the 2nd half, Phil Younghusband scored goal for the Philippines to lead Turkmenistan 1-0. That goal made the crowd roaring and jumping on their seats as it’s an assurance for a win. There were several attempts from Turkmenistan at the goal to possibly tie the game, but Azkals defense is so strong they ended the game scoreless.
The win puts the Philippine Azkals on top of Group E for the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers with the score of 9 and record of 3-0. It also enabled them to enter the AFC Challenge Cup main tournament in 2014 in Maldives.
