After winning today’s game against the Hong Kong team, Philippine team Gilas Pilipinas has finally clinched the top stop of FIBA Asia Group E.
It was not an easy win though thus a sweet victory. Gilas won from behind as Hong Kong led the game in almost 3 quarters. Hong Kong dominated the 1st quarter ending it with 6 points lead against Gilas at 19-13. The 2nd quarter is no difference as PH team struggled to out-score Hong Kong and they ended it up again on top at 33-28. 3rd quarter came the different story, thanks to Jeff Chan who scored at the 5:48 mark of 3rd Quarter that gave the Gilas its 1st lead of the Game 35-34. Although there are several chances that Hong Kong took back the lead, Gilas ended the 3rd with 3 points lead at 43-46. And in the 4th, it was all-out show for Gilas as they managed to pull away not giving a single chance for Hong Kong to come back. The game ended at 55-67 giving Gilas the top spot on the Group E.
Gilas’ win was fueled by Marcus Douthit’s 13 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Jeff Chan who started the momentum in the 3rd quarter meanwhile contributed 12 points (including 3 3-pointers) and 1 rebound. With this win, the Philippines now stands at 4 wins, 1 loss record followed by Chinese Taipei and Qatar in Group E.
Gilas Pilipinas will have their next game on Friday (Aug 9, 2013) 8:30PM this time against Kazakhstan. Let’s hope that they will get that one again and continue to pray for their win. #LabanPilipinas.
