Philippine National Flag Day starts today

Based on E.O. No 179 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos on May 23, 1994, National Flag day will be celebrated from May 28 up to the culminating celebration of Independence Day on June 12. This is to coincide with the date when the Philippine Flag was first unfurled on May 28, 1898 after the Philippine Revolutionary Army defeated the Spaniards at the Battle of Alapan in Imus Cavite.

Although the flag was officially and formally introduced to the people on the declaration of the Philippine Independence in Kawit on June 12, 1898, they saw it fitting to commemorate National Flag Day on the date it was first unfurled. Prior to FVR’s Executive Order former President Diosdado Macapagal also issued same procalamation, Proclamation No. 374,1965, setting National Flag Day to May 28.

During these period of time, all Filipinos are encouraged to display the Philippine Flag in their offices, business establishments, schools private homes and all agencies and departments of government.

And as a proud Filipino, I am setting my desktop background to our Philippine Flag. How about you, what will you do to show your respect and love for our Philippine National Flag?
