MRT overshoots EDSA-Taft station

Metro Rail Transit train bound for EDSA Taft overshoots its track causing it to crash the barrier of EDSA Taft station on Wednesday afternoon August 13, 2014.

The mishap is reported to have injured at least 30 passengers which was immediately brought to the nearby San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City.

According to passenger accounts (as reported by media), the train had already technical problem after passing Magallanes station causing it to stop. As basic precaution, passengers were not advised to alight, instead they’ve waited for another train to tow or push the defective one through coupling. And that is where the problem worsen, the defective train decoupled with the other one causing it to overshoot its tracks and crash the station barrier.

In a press statement, Malacanang said their will look into the details of the accident to know what causes the mishap.

This is not the first time that MRT encountered problems. There were several occasions that it also stopped due to technical glitches causing inconvenience to the riding public.
