NU and FEU moves to the UAAP Season 77 Finals

In a heart-pounding semi-finals match at the SMART Araneta Coliseum Wednesday between the final four, NU and FEU beat their opponents Ateneo and La Salle to move to the UAAP Season 77 Finals.

In the 1st Game, NU Bulldogs crashed Ateneo’s attempt to get back to the UAAP finals after beating them 65-63.

Entering the semi-finals, top seed Ateneo had the twice to beat advantage but NU’s determination to be back at the finals after more than 4 decades was rewarded. They were able to win the 1st game pushing Ateneo to a do-or-die game. In their do-or-die game today, Gelo Alolino’s crucial shot in the end game plus great defensive stop by Alfred Aroga cemented their way to the UAAP Season 76 Finals.

For the 2nd game, FEU breaks the heart of defending champions De La Salle University Archers after the buzzer-beater 3-point shot by Mac Belo to end the game 67-64.

The whole game was a rocky road for both teams as both team exchange leads until the last few seconds of the game. The Archers were leading by 4 points in the 4-minute mark of the 4th quarter 59-55, but Belo’s efforts at the basket put the game to a tie 59-59. Perkins and Inigo had an exchange of baskets to tie the game again at 61 all with less than 2 minutes of the game. With just a little over 1 minute in the game, Belo came in again with a huge 3 pointer to get the lead back to FEU 64-61. But Norbert Torres was able to convert a Jeron Teng assist into a lay-up basket to tie the game again at 64 all with only 24 seconds remaining. Down the stretch Mac Belo hit the buzzer beater 3-point shot from Tolomia’s assits to seal their win and move to the UAAP 2014 finals.

UAAP Season 77 Finals Game 1 between FEU and NU Bulldogs is scheduled on October 4 Saturday 3:30 p.m. at the MOA Arena.

With this emergence of NU and FEU, will this start a new era of  UAAP Men’s Basketball?
