After 60 long years, the National University Bulldogs finally re-claims the UAAP Championship crown after beating FEU Tamaraws 75-59 in their Game 3 match Wednesday October 15, 2014 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Hungry for the win, the Bulldogs fought hard early on to contain the Tamaras. And it was in the 2nd half specifically in 3rd quarter that Bulldogs started to dominate FEU to put a hefty advantage in possibly taking the Season 77 crown. The tandem of Alolino, Aroga and Khobuntin joined force in the last 2 minutes of the game to pull NU Bulldogs away leading FEU in as much as 16 points. From then on, UAAP Season 77 crown is already in the bag of the NU Bulldogs.
Alfred Aroga was declared UAAP Finals MVP and NU’s Headcoach Eric Altamirano was named Coach of the Season.
The record-breaking finals game today which was set to more than 25 thousand in attendance, cemented NU’s supremacy in UAAP after winning the women’s basketball championships and back to back win in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
The 3-game championship series caught people’s attention because it veers away from the usual Ateneo and La Salle rivalry thus attracting more viewers and media mileage. Added with it is the “championship hunger” factor that showcases the best of UAAP basketball.
