In an emotionally charged event at the Club Filipino in San Juan Friday July 31, 2015, President Aqunio III finally bares his endorsement of DILG Sec. Mar Roxas to be the Liberal Party’s bet for the Presidential election in 2016.
Speaking in front of fellow members in the Liberal Party, Civil society groups and other coalition partners, PNoy endorses the candidacy of Sec. Roxas for President in the the 2016 National Elections. In his speech he said Sec. Roxas is the rightful person to continue his administration’s policy of good governance. He also praised the secretary for his selfless sacrifice in 2009 to give way to eventual election as the country’s 15th President. He also enumerated some of the achievements of Roxas in different government departments that he served.
In response, an emotional Mar Roxas thanked the President for entrusting in him the burden of continuing the legacy of “Daang Matuwid”.
“Ako si Mar Roxas, tinatanggap ko ang hamon ng ating mga boss na ituloy at palawakin ang laban ng daang matuwid,” – Sec. Mar Roxas.
He also remembered how he got into politics though destiny and recalled the good legacy that the Roxas surname have planted in this country, the principle of “Country before Self”. With that he shared how important for him that he gave way to President Aquino in the last election because it paved the way for the start a new era of governance, which brought back people’s confidence and trust in government.
As he accepts the President’s endorsement, he said it’s like he’s also accepting the challenge of continuing the fight that Ninoy and Cory have started. And he promised not to shame their names and of the President.
Towards the end he said, this is just a start of a great story of the Filipino people and vowed to fight for the “Daang Matuwid” with great courage and integrity.
“Ngayon, buong katapatan, buong-loob, at buong-paninindigan kong tinatanggap ang tawag ng Daang Matuwid. Tulad ng sinabi po ninyo, Ginoong Pangulo, “Simula pa lang ito. Laban pa rin tayo.”
