READ: Isaias Samson Jr’s Complaint against leaders of INC

From Thursday August 27 until early morning of Monday August 31,2015, members of the religious sect Iglesia ni Cristo gathered infront of the DOJ Office in Manila and paralyzed traffic in EDSA Ortigas and EDSA Shaw.

The protest erupted from the filing of Illegal Detention complaint by expelled INC Minister Isaias Samon Jr against some members of the INC’s Sanggunian. Included in the complaint are Glicerio Santos Jr. Radel Cortez, Bienvenido Santiago Sr. Mathusalem Pareja, Rolando Esguerra, Erano Codera, Rodelio Cabrera and Maximo Buluran.

This complaint which was filed with the DOJ didn’t sit well with some of the INC ministers, thus calling on their members to stage a protest rally in front of the DOJ Office in Manila on Thursday. They wanted SOJ Leila de Lima to back off from the case because they saw it as a violation of the separation of Church and State.

But De Lima is adamant saying it is part of her duty to accept cases due for investigation. And that prompted the INC members to go to EDSA and stage their protest there until the early morning of August 31.

The protest was stopped when the government and the INC leadership sat on a meeting and clarified things. According to a report from ABS-CBN news, the protest started from the mis-understanding that INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo will be arrested which seemed too illogical as Samson said, because Manalo is not part of the respondents on his complaint.
