In a press conference Monday September 7, 2015 held at Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City, Mayor Duterte announces his decision not to seek for higher position in the 2016 elections.
He told the media and a crowd of supporters that he came up with the decision after careful consultations with his family. While many people, even movements have sprouted to push for Duterte’s candidacy for President in the next year’s election, the Mayor has categorically with finality said he will not run for President in the 2016 Philippine Elections.
Duterte also asks apology to all his supporters who believed in him. He also added that he may not be gunning for presidency but he will continue to push for Federalism which he believed will solve our country’s problems.
The rumor of him running started early this year when a purported campaign ad leaked on Youtube. The video showed the mayor riding a motorcycle with clips of what he has done in Davao. It was then followed by his frequent trips to different cities and provinces doing speaking engagements about his advocacy for Federalism. Several posters and flyers where also seen in different parts of the country which can be taken as part of his early campaigns.
But all these had become false hopes for his supporters because the Mayor has already decided not to run.
Now that he has decided not to field himself in the 2016 Presidential elections, who will he then support for President?
