Heneral Luna is PH’s entry to the 2016 OSCAR Best Foreign Language Film

Philippines’ latest historical bio-epic film Heneral Luna will be the country’s entry to the 2016 OSCAR Awards Best Foreign Language Film category.

The great news was announced Monday September 21, 2015 on Heneral Luna’s Official Facebook Page. Several Philippine news agencies also tweeted confirmation from FAP Director General Leo Martinez that Heneral Luna was chosen as the country’s entry to the OSCAR Awards.

Directed by Jerrold Tarog, the critically acclaimed film is a story about the Philippine hero General Antonio Luna who is one of those Filipino Soldiers who fought in the Philippine American War.

Since it’s first day of showing, the film already gathered big raves from movie goers for its brilliant story telling and spot on relevance to our current society. It even captured social media particularly Twitter when Netizens asked for the film’s retention on movie houses after pull outs from some cinemas after a week of showing. The hasgtag #HeneralLuna trended on Twitter proving it’s big effect on the people.

Can Heneral Luna surpass the journey of other Filipino films in OSCARS like Anak, Ang Munting Tinig, Dekada ’70, Crying Ladies, Ploning , Ang Pagdadalaga Ni Maximo Oliveros and Bwakaw? Will this be the time when a Filipino film will finally made it to the top 5 nominees?

Announcement of the Top 5 Foreign Language Film nominees is schedule on Janury 14, 2016 and the main event, the 88th OSCAR Awards on February 28, 2016 in Hollywood, California.
