In it’s decision, the Ombudsman orders the dismissal from the service & perpetual disqualification of Mayor Jun-Jun Binay in connection with the anomalous Makati carpark building project worth P2.28 billion. In a 103-page Joint Decision on six (6) docketed complaints, flagrant anomalies were found to have been committed by Binay, Jr. et. al.
In an interview with Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales on DZMM, Caprio-Morales cited grave misconduct and serious dishonesty as grounds for the dismissal of Mayor Junjun Binay.
“We have promulgated our resolution. I ordered the dismissal of Mayor Binay for grave misconduct and dishonesty. What goes with it is perpetual disqualification from holding public office and forfeiture of retirement benefits,” said Carpio-Morales
Asked if ex-Mayor Junjun Binay should be allowed to file his Certificate of Candidacy next week if he will seek re-election, Ombudsman Morales said it’s up to COMELEC if they will honor his COC because that is already beyond her concern.
The younger Binay was suspended by the Ombudsman last March for the alleged anomalous construction of the Makati City Hall Building II or the Makati City Hall Car Park Building but was able to secure a Temporary Restraining Order from the Court of Appeals. On June 2015 he was suspended again over another anomalous deal by the Makati government in the construction of the Makati Science High School. Although defiant to adhere to the second suspension, Binay agreed to step down and let Vice Mayor Kid Peña took over.
Junjun Binay has yet to issue a statement regarding his suspension. It was his sister Makati Rep. Abi Binay who talked to the media saying, the family has yet to decide what will be their next step.
