MMFF disqualifies Honor Thy Father in the Best Picture category

After being a replacement film to an official MMFF 2015 entry, Honor Thy Father is now faced with a disqualification in the Best Picture category.

MMFF organizing committee through MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos has informed Dondon Monteverde, CEO of Reality Entertainment who produced Honor Thy Father that they are disqualifying the film in the Best Picture category for allegedly not disclosing the film’s participation in the 2015 Cinema One Originals Film Festival.

In the letter, Carlos said the committee upon careful deliberation decided to disqualify Honor Thy Father in the Best Picture category because the producers failed to disclose the film’s participation at the Cinema One Originals Festival 2015 as the opening film.

News of the disqualification didn’t sit well with the netizens. Many were aghast and furious with what seemed to be politics inside the organizing committee. Because of that the hashtags #MMFF2015Scandal and #demandforhonorthyfather was created to put some pressure on MMDA to do something about it.

But with awards night to be held on Sunday December 27, can the movie and the producers managed to reverse the decision? We’ll see in the awards night if it will be read in the list of nominees.

Meanwhile, here’s the complete letter of Chairman Emerson Carlos to Dondon Monteverde informing him the disqualification of Honor Thy Father in the Best Picture category.
