The Senate of the Philippines has joined the nation in welcoming and congratulating the country’s third Miss Universe title holder, Pia Alonzo Wutzbach.
In a courtesy call Monday, January 25, the Senate lead by its President Senator Franklin Drilon with Senator Sonny Angara gave Pia a Special Citation of Excellence for giving the country pride after winning the 2015 Miss Universe title.
The Senate on December 21 and 22, 2015 has issued Senate Resolution numbers 1697 and 1698 Congratulating and Commending Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach for bringing home the country’s 3rd Miss Universe crown.
In his congratulatory message Senate President Drilon, offered his heartfelt congratulation to Ms. Wurtzbach for bringing honor and pride to our country.
“For a country that is very proud of the intelligence, talent and beauty of its women, this is indeed a great reason to celebrate.” he said.
“Pia’s life story has inspired millions of Filipinos. I hope she will continue use her voice to influence the Filipino youth in nation-building. Today, we need heroes to unite us and the Senate finds in Pia that hero that we need to unite us.” he added
For her part, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach thanked the Senate for giving her such honor. She said she didn’t think Miss Universe is such a big deal to a lot of people in our country and that having won the crown that we’ve waited for 42 years gave such a great honor and pride to our country.
“It’s really such an honor to be here today. As everybody knows, we’ve been waiting for this crown for a long time now. It’s been 42 years, and finally we got it. I don’t think a lot of people really know how big of deal Miss Universe is to the Philippines. It brings a lot of honor and a lot of pride to the country” – Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
Pia is currently roving the metro for her grand home coming parade which started in Manila and will end at the Araneta Center in Cubao. The 2015 Miss Universe title holder will be here in the country until the 31st of January 2016.
