Some 412 members of the Ateneo De Manila faculty has called on Senator and 2016 Vice Presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on his continuous revision of our country’s history.
In a position paper issued Wednesday March 2, 2016, members of the Ateneo De Manila University faculty condemned the young Marcos (who is running for Vice President in the upcoming 2016 Philippine election) on its “ongoing willful distortion of our history”. Their statement was made in response of Bongbong’s call to teachers, members of the academe and history students to judge what the late dictator has done for the Philippines.
In the paper they also said that they vehemently reject revision of our history, disturbing vision of the future and shallow call for unity being espoused by Marcos Jr and other 2016 candidates.
While the young Marcos kept of sanitizing his father’s regime and his refusal to acknowledge the dark days during Martial Law, the Ateneo faculty members stand to refuse to forget all the atrocities committed by the Marcos regime during the darkest days of our history. They also added that they are committed to remain true to their calling in teaching the truth that the Marcos dictatorship should be remembered as one of the darkest periods in Philippine history
Here’s the complete statement from the faculty of Ateneo De Manila University.
