Supreme Court votes 9-6 in favor of Sen. Poe-Llamanzares

After resting several oral arguments, the Supreme Court of the Philippine finally decided to vote in-favor of Sen.Grace Poe-Llamanzares’ petition to reverse the COMELEC’s decision to cancel her Certificate of Candidacy.

In a 9-6 vote Tuesday March 8, 2016, the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno has voted to allow Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzares to run for President in the upcoming May 2016 Philippine Elections.

The decision disqulifying Poe-Llamanzares in the May 2016 election was penned by Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo. And after voting, the 9 who reversed Del Castillo’s decision and favored Poe-Llamanzares’ petition were CJ. Ma. Lourdes Sereno, Assoc. Justices Presbitero Velasco, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Jose Perez, Jose Mendoza, Marvic Leonen, Francis Jardeleza, Benjamin Caguioa.

Meanwhile, those who concur with Del Castillo’s decision were Senior Assoc. Justice Carpio, Assoc. Justices Teresita Leonardo De Castro, Arturo Brion, Bienvenido Reyes and Estela Perlas-Bernabe.

Quickly after the decision, Poe-Llamanzares supports issued statements congratulating the Senator and thanking SC for the favorable decision. Senatoriables who were part of her Partido Galing at Puso share their adulation over the Supreme Court favoring Poe-Llamanzares to run for President in the May 2016 election.

Her campaign Spokemand Rex Gathalian on the other sand said, the Senator is grateful on the decision of the Supreme Court favoring her petition against COMELEC. He added the decision is not only Poe-Llamanzares victory but victory of the foundlings.
