It’s official, Philippines will be the host country of the next Miss Universe Pageant.
As confirmed by Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo, Philippine will be the host of the 2016 Miss Universe Pageant to be held on January 30, 2017.
Teo said no government funds will be spent as private sector will shoulder the cost of the pageant. This comes after President Rodrigo Duterte declined government spending on the said event.
The announcement was also shared on Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s official facebook page.
This will be the third time that the country will host the annual pageant of beaties. The Philippines first host the Miss Universe Pageant in 1974 which was won by Miss Spain Amparo Muñoz. Twenty years later, Miss Universe came back to the country in 1994 and crowned the first Indian Miss Universe Sushmita Sen.
Currently the Philippines has 3 Miss Universe; Gloria Diaz (1969), Margie Moran (1973) and Pia Wurtzbach (2015).
