Former Chief Justice Renato Corona passes away

Former Supreme Court of the Philippines Chief Justice Renato Corona has passed away Friday April 29, 2016 at the age of 67.

Corona died at around 1:48 am due to cardiac arrest as confirmed by his family.

Ex-Chief Justice Renato Corana had a long ang cororful stint in government service which ended in ouster after being convicted by the Senate Impeachment Tribunal.

Corona was the first Supreme Court Chief Justice high ranking official of the country to have been ousted and convicted by the Senate Impeachment Tribunal for non-disclosure of assets in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).

Before becoming the chief magistrate of the country’s Supreme Court, Corona serves as Chief Legal Counsel to former president Fidel V. Ramos and later on to former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as Presidential Chief of staff and Acting Executive Secretary.

Corona is survived by his wife Cristina Basa Roco and their 3 children. The SC said his remains will lie in state at The Heritage Park starting Saturday, April 30.
