Hidilyn Diaz breaks her personal record in London Olympics 2012

Filipina weightlifter and Philippine flag bearer in the opening ceremony of London Olympics 2012 Hidilyn Diaz did a nice job in her weightlifting event today at the ExCel in London.

The 21 year old Pinay broke her own Philippine record of 96kg when she lifted 97kg in the snatch round to rank 2nd among the Group B competitors. Because of that Filipino sporting fans cheered and throw support for Hidilyn via the micro blogging site Twitter, evident by landing as one of the trending topics here in the country. The phrases Go Hidilyn Diaz and Hidilyn Diaz landed in the top 10 trending topics in the Philippines.

But her Olympic campaign ended as she was unable to lift the 118kg in the clean and jerk round. After 3 non successful attempts, she settled for the last place in her group thus ending her campaign for an Olympic medal.

In spite of disappointment, the teary eyed Diaz still managed to hold her emotions and waved at the crowd cheering for her as a sign of her gratitude to them.

Earlier swimmer Jessie Lacuna also was unsuccessful to advance to the next round of competition. But there are still 9 athletes that will compete and hope is still alive for the Philippine Team to get that Olympic Medal and the elusive Olympic gold medal.
